Maryland AG backs marriage redefinition

WBALTV.com reports:

"In five, 10, 15 years, there is no question in my mind we will have gay marriage in the state of Maryland and across the United States," said Gansler, who acknowledged his arguments would be unpopular with some but that he was obliged as the state’s top lawyer to seek justice.

"It would be wrong for me to have this job knowing there’s something so wrong in our society and just ignore it," Gansler said.

The Baltimore Sun is also carrying the story.

I want to marry my pet goat and those backward, right wing , haters won’t let me. I feel it’s just so wrong. We plan to have a couple of ‘kids’ and live quietly .I know this argument will be unpopular withwith some, but I want someone to seek justice for me. This proves there is something wrong in our society, and we just can’t ignore it. I love her so……..

Looks like activism is not unique to the judiciary. What in the world is this state attorney general doing??

According to DOMAwatch.org, Maryland Code, Family Law, section 2-201 expressly defines marriage as between a man and a woman. Litigation has reinforced this definition. Deane v. Conaway (where the Court of Appeal ruled 5-2 in favor of traditional marriage).

    Seems pretty clear-cut to me.

In response to Daniel Briggs: Good point about judicial activism b/c if Maryland’s Code defines marriage as between a man and a woman, then that’s exactly what the Maryland Attorney General is doing! A Judge’s obligation/duty is to interpret the law and enforce it, they are NOT the law makers…that is left to the legislators or “suppose” to be rather. If Marriage is defined as a union between a Man and a Woman = no ambiguity there…how much clearer can that be?

What’s he doing? That depends on how conservative Maryland is…..
